Helmet from Alamein
I bought this helmet 20 years ago.
Typical way to create a camouflage for an helmet: sand color with sand put on it. The helmet is also typical from the beginning of the war (kind of color of painting…). Real 8th Army / Western Desert Force helmets are always with their basic color with sand color on top of them, never with the desert color inside as the basic color from the factory, as those used in the Middle East were at first designed for Europe.
Inside the helmet, hidden, I discovered part of a newspaper : « The Egyptian Mail », dating from July 3rd, 1942, that is at the beginning of the first battle of El Alamein.
So the owner of this helmet, Wilson, was a member of British forces in Egypt during WWII.
